Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Who made this site?

Sam created this WIKI page, PWN (the site that it is meant to twin) on the other hand, was created by Toph4er

  • I have symptoms that match what you are talking about, does this mean i have Narcolepsy?

That is something you have to ask your Doctor, no one here is a trained doctor (to the best of my knowledge) This site is purely to educate from a subjective viewpoint, we cannot diagnose in any way.

  • What is this i keep hearing about a nasal spray to cure Narcolepsy?

I have to ask, are you hanging out with a bunch of neurologists? who talks about this frequently ... ?

First and foremost, as far as things stand at the minute there is no cure for narcolepsy. The nasal spray that you have heard of is designed to counteract sleepiness by introducing hypocretins, it is in a spray form so as not to be hindered by the blood brain barrier. Whether or not this actually works we won't know until it is tested on humans, at the moment it is proving useful for sleep deprived monkeys. Just so that you are aware, yes there is an epidemic of monkeys that are sleep deprived ... apparently. Anywho - it is a good leap forward in helping people with Narcolepsy and other sleep related illness. See the full article: here. ... or find the research article here.

  • I have been prescribed amphetimines by my doctor but i am worried about what i hear about them in the media, what should i do?

Talk to your doctor, that is what they are there for, if you are worried about something then talk to him/her, they are professionals after all. You can of course do your own back ground research into the drugs that you are proscribed as i do but i would strongly encourage you to seek assurances from your doctor.

  • What help is there available to me?

This will of course depend on where you are from but for those living in England, there is DLA to consider (for more, see the link page) Also, you are likely to get help from your school or educational establishment to help deal with your symtpoms. Really it is about awareness, a lot of the time it is just helpful for people to know about your situation. From personal experience i can understand how difficult it can be to let others know that you have Narcolepsy but the key is education! Don't just let them think it is about sleepiness, it is so much more, they need to understand all the symptoms and how this will affect them, you are owed the same rights that all members of the public are.
