PWN is a site dedicated to those of us who deal with narcolepsy, either directly or indirectly. This site, therefore is created in the hope that those who have questions about this syndrome will find the answers that they are looking for here.
I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy over 6 years ago and i had hoped that a diagnosis would be an end to the problems, but it turned out that education helped much more than drugs did. Those with narcolepsy can feel alienated and alone: this is exactly how i felt. When i finally felt like i needed to talk to those that could understand me, i searched the web for like minded people. What i found was a message board that has helped me deal with my life, disabilities and all!
This WIKI page is an off-shoot of that message board, aimed at collecting what we have learnt and discovered about Narcolepsy and other such symptoms, the syndrome itself is much misunderstood and although it is not as rare as some would think, it is woefully under-diagnosed which tends to compound the problems more than anything else.
We at PWN hope that those of you who find this site, manage to understand a little more about this condition. I know how difficult it can be to deal with this disorder and how much of an impact it can have on every aspect of your life, whether you have narcolepsy or it is someone clsoe to you that does. I understand, and i empathise, but i do believe that humour can help (unless that is what triggers your cataplexy attacks) this board, therefore, attempts to stir away from the 'doom and gloom' that can be found elsewhere. I jest about the disorder in good faith, and an attempt to make people see the lighter side of this disorder, not to belittle the problems that we as sufferers have. Maybe in another life, i should think about becoming a clown ... or you know something that embodies comedy as opposed to overwhelming fear.
It is our hope that this can make more public the problems that we have to deal with as well as educating those that are new to dealing with this situation.
Thank You,
P.W.N.
